After the first 2 months of this season, I and many fans of the New York Red Bulls were in firm belief that this could finally be The Year. But since then, this franchise, both on and off the field, as Alexi Lalas would say, has been less than mediocre, reminding us of the Same Old Metro.
I was thinking about the 3-man midfield of Claudio Reyna, Joe Vide, and Dave van den Bergh last Saturday, and it leads me to opine that we will once again undergo another huge turnover next season. Hard to swallow, eh?
Consider this:
2004 MetroStars' midfield:
Joselito Vaca (always an underrated player)
Mark Lisi (Coming off a season in which he recorded 11 assists -- 2nd most in the league behind Preki)
Mike Magee
Ricardo Clark
Gilberto Flores
Pablo Brenes
Amado Guevara (MLS MVP)
Eddie Gaven (in terrific form and playing like the MLS All-Star he was)
2005 MetroStars' midfield:
Mike Magee
Mark Lisi
Michael Bradley
Eddie Gaven
Amado Guevara
Youri Djorkaeff (occasionally played midfield)
2006 Red Bulls' midfield:
Danny O'Rourke
Mike Magee
Chris Henderson
Amado Guevara
Youri Djorkaeff
Seth Stammler
Dema Kovalenko and Markus Schopp (late acquisitions)
2007 Red Bulls' midfield:
Claudio Reyna
Seth Stammler
Dema Kovalenko
Joe Vide
Markus Schopp
Dane Richards
Dave van den Bergh
Santino Quaranta
Clint Mathis
There is only one player that remains from the 2005 team, and that guy is Mike Magee -- a midfielder/forward who has seen minimal playing time thus far due to injury. Besides the many changes, is there something you can decipher about these lists? Which midfield, in your opinion, is the best of these 4? I want to know what you think so let's hear it in the comments section.

I'd have to go with '04 or '05.
It is NOT 2006, that's for sure!!
My answer would be between 2007 and 2005.
What does "eh" mean?
